Congratulations on winning the Montessori Innovator Award. Could you tell us a little about this award?
The Montessori Innovator Award recognizes individuals for their original contributions to the practice and experience of Montessori education.
How did you get involved to Montessori education?
I became a teacher/educator after my college. My father was a doctor and a social worker. He always believed in education and supported educational institutes by funding for the education for underprivileged children. When I told him about my passion to become an educator and wanted to start my tutoring classes he was very happy and encouraged my decision. The only condition he put was to teach the children for free who were eager to learn but their families couldn’t afford. That is how I partnered with my friend and started the tutoring classes for the underprivileged children in my hometown.
I was introduced to the Montessori environment and education system in 2006 by one of my good friends who was working in a Montessori school. I started working as a substitute teacher but my passion for Montessori education grew over the year and I applied for the job as an assistant teacher.
My experience as an assistant teacher in the Children’s House classroom deepened my knowledge and taught me the value of Montessori education. My desire and the family support helped me take the next step in my career to become a trained Montessori teacher and expand my horizons. I enrolled in the Northeast Montessori Institute and finished a year long intensive training under the guidance of trained teachers and mentors and earned my AMS certification in Early Childhood in June 2020.
Could you describe the Montessori Philosophy?
Montessori philosophy is to “follow the child†and help the child to become independent until he says “Help me to do it by myselfâ€. It does not just focus on the academic aspect of the child but helps the child to grow as a whole by considering his social, physical and emotional need. This can be achieved by creating a nurturing environment in the classroom of mixed age children from 3 to 6 years. This classroom is called the Children’s House.
What was your special contribution as an educator?
As a Montessori educator, I partnered with the school community and the children and their families and shared ideas, developed lessons and materials to best support their social, physical, emotional and academic needs. I was involved in supporting them in the Covid - 19 crises where my ideas and goals to best support the children and families were very well received and implemented.
What are your future plans?

I am honored to receive the 2021 Montessori Innovator Award in recognition for my impassioned and inventive work throughout my Montessori journey and the Covid - 19 crises and I pledge to follow the Montessori philosophy in observing, guiding and assessing the children and help develop the skills and methods that cater to the needs of my students.
