Aptly called Srishti, a Sanskrit word which means nature, creation and the Universe, this musical program pays homage to our beautiful earth and all that it bestows. The beauty and abundance of nature have inspired the selection of the music the artists will present - imagine cool breezes, verdant hills, rousing sunrises, flaming sunsets, the splattering of raindrops and the powerful echoes of thunder!
About Food Link
Food Link is a nonprofit community organization based out of Arlington, MA with a mission to create a food system without waste, in which everyone has enough to eat. It does this by rescuing good quality, fresh food to alleviate hunger while also contributing to environmental sustainability. It is the bridge between the grocery stores, wholesalers and farms that have the capacity to donate high quality fresh surplus food and the community organizations. Each week, 250+ volunteers and staff collect from 48+ food donors and deliver to 50+ community organizations to feed the food insecure. Teams work to tailor the size, timing, and make-up of deliveries to meet the specific needs of the partner organizations and those they serve. In 2020 alone, Food Link collected and distributed over 1.2 million pounds of food, which is the equivalent of more than 1 million nutritious meals.
As the pandemic continues to rage, millions of Americans are out of work and displaced from housing. One in four are left without reliable access to sufficient, affordable, and nutritious food. Sadly, a staggering 30-40% of the food produced in the US is thrown away or discarded. Rescuing just 15% of this is enough to feed 25 million Americans each year. Add to this the environmental cost of food waste - wasted food takes resources to produce and when discarded in a landfill the decomposition emits methane, a major greenhouse gas. Globally, methane from food waste alone makes up 7% of total greenhouse emissions. Food Link aims to address both these pressing issues.
Please join these very talented local artists in their efforts to raise awareness about Food Link and their yeoman service. Your generous tax-deductible donation to Food Link will help rescue food and feed more people in need. Donations of $50 or more will be entered into a raffle featuring original art by local artists, gift cards and more.
The event is supported by our wonderful volunteers and friends Shobha Reginald, Anand Parikh, Aparna Ramaswami, Lalitha Ramakrishnan, Anu Parikh, Subashree Viswanathan, Maithili Rao and Karthik Ramaswami.
