Sudarshan K. Ishrish, a long time resident of Warwick, RI, passed away surrounded by loving family on Saturday, July 18, 2020 in Bowie, MD.
Sudarshan was married to the late Bal Krishan Ishrish, and is survived by her son Vinod Marken and his wife Mary of East Greenwich, RI, her son Raj Marken and his wife Maureen, and her daughter Bela Sood and her husband Sanjiv of Bowie, MD. Sudarshan leaves behind six loving grandchildren: Sanjay Marken (fiancée Jane Serbin), Ajay Marken (wife Angela), Mala Marken, Shaun Marken (wife Alex), Sasha Sood (fiance Adam Lazri) and Neil Sood.
Sudarshan Ishrish was born in 1930 to Diwan Chand Chopra and Sulakhni Chopra in Gujranwala, Punjab, India. She often recalled how she enjoyed her childhood days of studying, taking care of the animals, and cooking. At the time of partition, Sudarshan and her family fled to India, having to leave their animals, their home, and their lives behind. They ended up in Simla where she continued her education. Sudarshan married Bal Krishan Ishrish in 1953 and moved to Delhi. They had three children (Vinod, Raj, Bela) and moved to Canada in the mid 1960s and to Massachusetts a year later. She lived in New England for the rest of her life.
Religion was an important element of her life. She enjoyed praying in large gatherings, especially performing havan ceremonies, and teaching others about Hinduism. She was known by friends and family as an excellent chef, and even when she was tired, she would make some parathi and halwa for her grandchildren. She loved her children, but she loved her grandchildren most.
