Announces its WINTER ART CONTEST WINNERS!! The Center for Arts and Wellness
had organized a ‘Winter’ themed art contest for children earlier this year.
Participants were asked to submit original pieces of artwork in the form of a two-dimensional
painting. Children could use materials like paints, crayons, oil pastels, gel
pens and more to decorate their artwork. The contest invited entries in three
age categories, 3 to 6 years, 7 to 9 years and 10 to 15 years. It was aired in
December and participants had 3 months, until March 15 to submit their artwork.
In all 31 children registered for the contest. The contest was judged by Sue
Funk and Shreshthi Mehta. Sue is a renowned artist, illustrator and child
author. Shreshthi is an artist with a passion for teaching. She specializes in
curriculum design and facilitation. Both teach at the Center and have offered
various types of art classes from beginner level, to art-themed vacation
programs, and tribal Warli Art. The pictures were judged on the basis of
creativity in depicting the theme, sketching skills, color composition and
neatness. Many children had submitted
pictures showing holiday celebrations with a tree, stockings, candy canes,
gifts and other decorations. Some others had drawn snowy landscapes or the aurora
borealis. Winter activities like snowboarding, ice skiing and snow tubing were
also illustrated. The judges had a difficult time
in picking the winners as they were all so good. After much deliberation the
prizes were allotted as below: Category 1: Ages 3 – 6 Category 2: Ages 7 – 9 Category 3: Ages 10 – 15 The Center directors Hema
