Sudhir (Steve) Chainani,  Stamford Connecticut resident and American Devices founder and CEO is helping fill the enormous need for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) like masks and gowns during the Corona virus pandemic, by supplying in 100,000’s to hospitals and government agencies across America at modest prices.

 In a recent conversation with Sudhir, here is what he had to say about it all -

 Q: How did you get into the business of supplying PPE’s and how big is your operation?

A : Sudhir started American Devices in 1990 with his father and was in the business of supplying electronic components and medical devices worldwide, which he sold in 2004. When the pandemic hit USA, his  old clients and friends who knew of the earlier venture, approached Steve with an urgent need to supply the much needed N95 masks, gowns and other supplies due to severe shortages in the country. Since Sudhir already had the connections and experience, he decided to get back into the business and supply PPE’s to hospitals and States across America and help save lives. The company with head count of 9,  also makes its own hand sanitizers for sale and their largest shipment has been to New York state and hospitals in amount of 100,000 plus.

 Q: What are some challenges you faced in this journey.

 A: Due to pandemic and slowing down of economic engine, it is hard to get payments for these large orders which in turn makes it hard to raise capital. The help offered by federal government not being sufficient coupled with banks not lending has made it difficult to meet demand and keep supply chain going, getting goods from China and India.

  Q: How do you feel  the Indian community is dealing with this crisis both here and in India.

 A: Sudhir finds lack of preparedness to be the number one factor in the Indian community in US and India. People need to be prepared with supplies like food, masks and cash in case this gets worse.
