11/20/2019

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) joins hands with the American India Foundation (AIF) for one of the most exciting education related initiatives, Engineering Futures Project – Innovate to Educate. The project is a part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education initiative among 6th, 7th and 8th standard students studying in 20 select government schools, located around various L&T campuses and project sites across three districts namely Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu. The project aims to enable 85 teachers and 6,000 students by providing standardized digital content aligned with state school curriculum. Dr. Kannappan, Director – School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M. V. Satish, Whole Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President – Buildings, Minerals & Metals, L&T and other dignitaries attended the event.

On the launch of the project, Mathew Joseph, AIF Country Director, said, “We are very grateful to L&T for partnering with AIF for the ‘Engineering Futures Project’. AIF’s Digital Equalizer program has empowered 4 million students till date, and with this partnership, students from select government schools in three districts in Tamil Nadu will experience digital transformation in their classrooms.”

This intervention will teach students the fun way of learning Maths and Science. A pool of master trainers are created in the government system for the sustainability of the program. The partnership will support all schools with the necessary infrastructure and learning resources and empower the teacher being the key driver, with various educational resources and innovative teaching learning practices to deliver better quality education leading to improved outcomes.

Education kits, a comprehensive digital resource consisting of videos, animations and Power Point Presentations, prepared by AIF’s Digital Equalizer team, are provided to the teachers for classroom transactions. The kits content for grades 6th to 8th will be aligned to the existing school curriculum and academic standards prescribed by NCERT. To summarize, the interactive multimedia content enables the teaching-learning process to graduate from ‘chalk and talk’ method of teaching to ‘interactive and intrinsic learning’ method of teaching.

Besides Chennai, the project is being launched in 63 schools in Surat, Faridabad and Vadodara impacting close to 13,000 students.
