Diwali, or Deepavali, a Sanskrit word meaning “rows of lighted lamps,†the most popular festival among all Indians, it spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. During the five-day celebration — also known as the “festival of lights†— clay lamps known as diyas are lit to signify the victory of good over evil.
Diwali is Diwali also celebrates the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Lakshmi. The Diwali story are based on where they live, but mainly it marks the story of King Rama's return to Ayodhya after he defeated Ravana by lighting rows of clay lamps.
IAB – Indian Americans for Burlington is very grateful and excited to celebrate ‘The Festival of Lights – Diwali†on Sept 29th from 1PM to 6:30PM in Burlington Town common with US Rep. Seth Moulton, State Sen. Cindy Friedman, State Rep. Ken Gordon, Selectmen and other dignitaries in attendance. The IAB team has the event planned with Dance programs, Activities, games, competition, henna and other booths.
The Gazebo will be decorated to represent on how everyone decorates their home with lights, Rangolis and colorful ornament. There will be vendors and food stall for shopping Indian clothes and to enjoy the taste of Indian food.

Diwali falls between October and November, but the exact dates change each year based on the Hindu lunar calendar. This year Diwali falls on Oct 27th.Every home is lit with diyas, leaving no room for darkness to enter, and doorsteps are decorated to welcome guests. Sweets and savory items are made and shared with neighbors, friends and family. In addition, many people wear new clothing to thank Lakshmi for providing prosperity and good fortune. And, as evening comes, firecrackers are set off.
