It was a beautiful spring afternoon in Boston. Over 40 Bala Vihar teachers and volunteers gathered at the Chinmaya Mission in Andover for an important task. Their mission was to hand write (yes, a lost art) over 450 letters to member households, inviting them to attend Pujya Swami Swaroopanandaji’s jnana yajna in August !! Inspired by a video from the Chinmaya Mission archives about Gurudev’s first jnana yajna, the sevaks embarked on this remarkable task. Each letter was personally signed by CMB President, Dr. Gopala Dwarakanath and the spiritual advisor Dr. Shashi Dwarakanath.
This activity set the tone for a wonderful, vibrant and joyous energy which was felt throughout Swamiji’s presence and pravachans during the week. Pujya Swamiji’s arrival in Boston was heralded by a red-carpet welcome with Bala Vihar children offering soft rose petals at His feet, and the foyer resounding with the sound of “Tvam He No Neta†a composition by Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayanandaji. Over 300 devotees thronged the center every evening to listen to Swamiji’s wonderful and insightful satsang on Chapter 14; Guna Thraya Vibhaga Yoga. Interspersed with humor, Swamiji exhorted all and drew the audience attention to the relationship between Sattva and knowledge, Rajas and cycle of action and Tamas and inertia. All attendees were enthralled by Swamiji’s lucid explanation of the three gunas and were left wanting for more. The devotees as well as the sevaks felt blessed by Swamiji’s presence and look forward to his visit again to Boston.
