Press Release 08/01/2019 A Brief Introduction to Swami Swaroopananda, Head of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide Even as a teenager, Swami Swaroopananda was interested in the spiritual path. After discovering Pujya Swami Chinmayananda’s "Holy Geeta", he was amazed by the clarity, the analytical thinking and the practical explanations Gurudev had brought out so lucidly. His parents were members of Chinmaya Mission Hong Kong and through them, Swamiji too became a part of the mission. One evening, he and a group of his peers attended a satsang by Swami Chinmayananda, which they found profoundly moving. Instead of going home that evening, they went to a place called, “The Peakâ€, a relatively tranquil place in Hong Kong. They spent hours discussing their conversations with Swami Chinmayananda, followed by some quiet contemplation - not returning home until very late that night. When they came to bid farewell to Swamiji the next morning, he turned to them and lovingly remarked, “instead of meditating at The Peak, try to reach the peak in meditationâ€!! So, at a very young age, Swami Swaroopananda made up his mind about the course of his life. He attended the two-year Vedanta course, taught by Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda in Mumbai. As a Brahmachari, he was posted to work in Hong Kong. After taking the sanyasi diksha, Swamiji spent many years in the far east and Australia. He had a profound influence on youngsters and started a robust youth movement there. In 2004, the youth of Chinmaya Mission Australia, put up a show called, “Ramayan in the Parkâ€. The entirety of the Ramayana was enacted by youngsters in a public park. It was very well received by the whole community, including locals. This brought awareness of the glory of Hindu culture to many. Swamiji then served in the role of the Head of Chinmaya International School in Coimbatore, which now is nationally acclaimed as one of the best educational institutions in India, providing a holistic education to children. In 2018, Swami Swaroopananda was given the role of head of Chinmaya Mission worldwide. He tirelessly travels all over India and the globe, promoting the message of Advaita Vedanta. Under his leadership, Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeet, is rapidly taking shape and growing to accomplish a unique university education. Swamiji has many books, audio and video talks that have been published and are very well received. Additionally, his talks on Ik Onkar and Guru Granth Sahib are very popular. We are indeed blessed to host Swamiji in Boston this year between August 5-9. The topic Swamiji has chosen is Chapter 14 of the Bhagavad Gita. Not only does it clearly explore the inner workings of our mind, but also provides many practical tips to manage it. We welcome you all to listen, enjoy, and benefit from these discourses at Chinmaya Mission in Andover (6:30 PM from Aug 5th to 9th).
