NEMM Maharashtra Din Celebration in Boston on May 11^th  2019 in Marathi style

New England Marathi Mandal (NEMM) is a 40+ years old organization that’s situated in the New England area. We are proud to inherit and preserve the Maharashtrian culture through various activities. Over the years, we have provided many splendid programs and entertained good-size crowds on the occasion of Marathi festivals such as Maharashtra Din, Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, Padwa and Makar Sankrant.

We also conducted kid activities that were focused towards the Marathi festivals that we were celebrating. Furthermore, we were also involved in ‘Giving Back to community” and conducted donations, encouraged volunteering partnership through our local communities and provided forum for knowledge exchange through info sessions like Real Estate, college admission process etc.

I took the responsibility as a president in January 2019 and delivered 3 programs so far successfully with the help of my energetic committee and volunteers. As a president of the organization, my objective is to not only deliver quality cultural programs but to also bring the community together for all ages and provide an event that will cater the needs of our diverse community.

With that in mind, we started our “Maharashtra Din” event with “College Admission Process” seminar. It was conducted by our 5 brilliant high school students who recently got admitted into colleges/universities.  This was followed by the “Flash Mob”, which was performed by group of 12-14  talented participants who danced on various popular Marathi songs to boost the spirit of the 550+ audience. After, the committee members paid respect to the Maharashtrian leaders by offering flowers and showing video clip of how it was formed and who helped building our beloved state.

We have seen many Bollywood concerts like Sonu Nigam, Arjit Singh etc. but never got an opportunity for our members to see Marathi live concerts.  Our committee wanted to bring programs that will connect to the younger generation as well. Therefore, we decided to bring “Double Dhamaka – Avadhoot Gupte and Swapnil Bandodkar a live concert” . Avadhoot Gupte is an Indian music composer and singer who is popularly known for his work in the Marathi film and music industry. Swapnil Bandodkar is a Marathi playback singer from India, known for playback singing Marathi film and television world.  Both of them, along with Juilee Joglekar (female singer) accompanied by six musicians, have rocked the floor for 2.5 hours and entertained all our audience irrespective of their age. Many of the audience were so excited that they came on stage to dance along with performer. It was difficult to control them some time but looking at the big smiles, we chose to let them express their excitement. Our community has appreciated our efforts through various social medias and that is ultimately the award any committee can take to put more efforts in the future programs.

Our Ganapati Festival is on September 14^th , we look forward to deliver another good event during that time.
