Aparna Sindhoor, appears Saturday, March 20th at the Tsai Performance Center to perform a one woman dance performance in a Navarasa dance theater production entitled K R I S H N A - N A R M A D A (Stories of Love and the River). Organized by The Boston University Core Curriculum, the show is written and directed by Raju Sivasankaran.

The Performance includes Nayika and River Rites. Nayika is a traditional Indian portrayal of the love between Krishna and Radha based on the Gita Govinda, a 13th century work by the Sanskrit poet Jayadeva. The dance celebrates love, both human and divine. River Rites is a celebration of the struggle by hundreds of thousands of people in India and around the world to stop the destruction of the Narmada river, a symbol of people living in harmony with nature. Interweaving Bharatanatyam classical dance, Indian folk dance, and Yoga, River Rites depicts the people’s resistance, particularly the work of women. River Rites has been performed extensively in North America and India, including the Narmada valley. Medha Patkar comments on her dance "It is through art, and not just science that Aparna brings to us, LIFE!"

Aparna Sindhoor is the founder and Artistic Director of Navarasa Dance Theater. She has performed in India Europe, Canada, and across the United States. Some of the critically acclaimed works include dance theater based on Mahasweta Devi's "The Hunt", and "Draupadi", and Raju Sivasankaran's "River Rites" and "Agua Thanneer Water".

Artists' Comments – “ I have taken 4 Ashtapadis from Gita Govind and weaved them into a series of stories on the love between Radha and Krishna This is the Mysore style of Bharathanatyam where the sensual and the erotic element has more emphasis unlike other styles where the devotional aspect is more evident. I perform the pieces solo with my own narration accompanied by a single percussionist”.
