The New England Malayalee Association held competitions to provide encouragement to the amateur artists in New England. Over 600 participants took part in the weeklong competitions that culminated in a grand finale on April 27, 2019. The competitions included art, literature, music and dance competitions.
On Day 1 participants took part in drawing, painting, poetry, short story, essay, monoacting and elocution competition. On Day 2 Solo and Group Classical singing competitions were held. On Day 3, Indian and Western non-classical singing competitions were held. Day 4 had the classical solo dance competition while on the grand finale day group dance competitions were held.
The event was started nearly 9 years ago as a dance competition to promote local talent. It has since grown and become one of the keystone competitions of the year attracting a large group of participants. NEMA focuses on a wide variety of activities under the leadership of President Dheeraj Prasad and General Secretary Srividya Ramachandran . This event was under the arts efforts led by Nivya Mohan, Arts Club Secretary and Geena Anand, Joint Arts Club Secretary. Manoj Pillai is the Vice President and Sreekesh N.K. is the joint secretary.
