Press Release 04/18/2019 Fight for Kshiti - Live Musical Fundraiser (High Octavez Band) Kshiti Karthikeyan suffers from a rare and severe genetic condition called Leigh Syndrome. Leigh's
is a terminal and severely progressive Neurodegenerative condition,
that as of today has no known FDA treatment or cure. It affects 1 in
40,000 children. Due to defective / mutated genes, mitochondria which are the power
houses for our cells fail to function normally, and over a period of
time the lack of energy production, eventually leads to cell death. The
disease results in a progressive loss of mental and movement abilities
(psychomotor regression), eventually leading to vision, cardiac, renal
and respiratory complications, typically resulting in death in a couple
of years. The median lifespan for kids with Leigh’s is 2.5 years. A fighting chance to live................... Watch her story at While more than 75 different genetic mutations can cause Leigh
Syndrome, Kshiti’s condition is caused by mutations in the SURF1 gene. The aim of our gene therapy research trial is to send a corrected copy of this gene SURF1 into our kids’ brains. www.curesurf1.org is a registered 501(c)(3). SURF1
is the name of a critical gene that takes part in oxidative
phosphorylation, which is the process that converts the food we eat into
energy. This activity takes place in the mitochondria, which serve as
the power plant in each of our body’s cells. A defect in the SURF1 gene
prevents mitochondria from producing enough energy for cells in the body
to function normally, leading to a rare and progressive genetic disease
called Leigh syndrome. High Octavez is an eclectic live music band founded
by a group of IT professionals and Engineers with a vision to bring
together people of different religions, languages and nations through
the medium of light music. They are based in Dallas. Being 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization, all the profit from the shows are used in
helping out medical needs of the people who are faced with a double
challenge in life, that of an illness and the lack of money to treat the
illness. You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
