Rachana Shah 09/20/2018 Gurjar Heritage Fest-Sept 15th 2018 at the
Heritage Park in Lowell, MA Gurjar organized second fun filled cultural fest held at the
Heritage Park was a tremendous success.
Over 4,000 people attended the festivities and enjoyed the mouthwatering
delicacies from various food vendors. The festival kicked off at noon, with the
arrival of Chief Richardson, superintendent of Police City of Lowell followed
by Mayor William Samaras, of Lowell. Mayor Samaras addressed the crowd with great enthusiasm,
here are some excerpts from both our chief guest. “We are so happy, that
you all have picked Lowell to celebrate this event, making Lowell so vibrant
and colorful, we love the diversity in Lowell and the culture that this event
brings in. We want to make this happen
for you, every year†Chief Richardson walked around and tasted some spicy food,
loving every dish that was offered to him, stated, “I am here for you guys,
call us for any help if needed, this is a great festival, hope you all make
this an annual event, we love having you all here. We love to see such rich
cultural events happening in our cityâ€. The tents lined up with retailers exhibiting colorful
clothing, accessories and glittering jewelry was a real eye candy. Attending
women, could not get enough of it, which of course made the vendors very happy. The variety of performances from the kids singing garba
(Indian folk-dance), and traditional dances were loved by all. The Bolly-X session had everyone swinging
with the artists on stage. Soulful singing of Ashutosh and music by DJ Rakesh
added color to the mix. Activities of Henna tattoo, dunk tank and a bouncy
house kept youngsters engaged. Many charitable organizations like ICC, Shishu Bharati, We
Care Charity, Akshay Patra and Sewa were hosted at the event and they too were
pleasantly surprised with the outpouring of support. It was very heartwarming
to see that young volunteers worked tirelessly to raise funds for their High
Schools. The real highlight of the event, DJ invited all the
attendees to join in to dance on the stage and celebrate our special year.
Young and old danced on the stage till the
evening ended. People went home with goodies from the raffle and one young
lady is of course flying anywhere in the world, courtesy of Turkish Airline
(ticket donated for the raffle). The day ended with smiley faces returning to their cars.
Noon to 7.00pm seemed like a short day with everyone; organizers and attending
guests having had so much fun. At the end of the day when the
Gujarati community and a large number of native and ethnic folks so heartily
support the event, the hard work poured-in by the organizing team seems very
worthwhile. It gives us great pleasure to recognize the generous
sponsorships received from Realtors Darshana, Robin and Tejal, Tufts
Healthcare, Heineken and Tanna Insurance, without whose support such mega event
would not have been possible. On to next
year! You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
