It is that time of the year when parents are thinking of how to occupy,
stimulate, and enrich their children while still making sure they have an
enjoyable summer. And what better way to do that than enrolling them in classes
that tap their creative side! If you are still searching for something for your
children to do, then look no further! The Center for Arts and Wellness in
Westborough has unique classes to choose from – ‘Dare to Draw’: Painting and
Sketching; ‘Creative Adventures’: Photography, Marbling, Animation and Stop
Motion; Bharatanatyam; and Pottery and Ceramics. These classes are being run by
full-time professionals in the field who specialize in their respective art
forms. The Center offers flexibility and is accepting enrollments for full-day
or multiple days during the weeks of July 23, July 30, August 13, and August
21. To learn more about the classes and to register, go to: https://www.centerforartsandwellness.com/vacation/. 1. July 23 – 26: ‘CREATIVE ADVENTURES’ Art
& Design Camp: By Parijata Jain of I Felt Design Studio This camp will cover many fun artistic and creative activities for kids,
ages 6-12 years. Day 1 will feature Photography where attendees will be
introduced to basic techniques of photography such as how to hold the
camera/phone, where the light source is, and the use of composition to create a
great picture. Kids will also do some fun photography projects like Framing, View
point, and Creative perspective. Day 2 will feature ‘Stop Motion’ where basics
of animation such as developing a story, building sets and props, shooting a
movie, and creating and exporting the movie will be taught. Day 3 will involve
the Art of Marbling. Kids will be introduced to the mesmerizing art of Marbling
floating colors where they will paint
on WATER! Children will experiment with their choice of color combinations, learn
to use wooden brushes and combs to design different patterns, and learn about
colors, textures, and patterns. They will transfer the work onto paper and
create one-of-a-kind prints. Finally, on Day 4 the kids will learn basics of
landscape art and paint a BEACH canvas with acrylic colors. They will use original sea shells to add a
third dimension to their painting. The final day will feature an exhibition
when parents can come and view the kids’ creations. 2. July 24 – 27: BHARATANATYAM WORKSHOP:
By Madurai Muralidharan Attendees at various levels (Intermediate and Senior) will learn
techniques of Bharatanatyam. One-on-One sessions are also available for
Arangetram-ready students who will get an opportunity to learn a full dance.
The workshop will cover stretching and exercises, adavus, natuvangam, and
dances. All attendees will learn a full dance piece. Full day, Half day,
Private and Group lessons are available. 3. July 30 – August 02: ‘DARE TO DRAW ’ Art
Camp for the Budding Artist: By Sue Funk This WEEK OF CREATIVITY will include many different styles and aspects of
sketching and drawing. Attendees will explore the “how to†of drawing animals
to create a recognizable pet including how to draw fur, feathers, scales, etc.,
and how to make these lovable creatures look three dimensional. The class will
also discuss 2 artists - Andy Warhol & Georgia O’Keefe - and how they took everyday
objects and blew them up to a super-size. Attendees will observe a small or
regular sized object and Draw it in different sizes and observe if it changes in
shape, color and texture. Students will use their imagination to create a new,
pretty strange home - inside and out, explore Still Life and learn how to
really look at an object and then draw it while learning the value of composition,
shading and color. Attendees will create at least one drawing in Monotone, explore
how to draw people realistically so they look like people, investigate how to
convert everyday real people into cartoons, and redraw their favorite picture
book. 4. August 21 – 23: HAND BUILDING POTTERY Camp:
By Arti Bhola Goulatia of The
Ceramics Garage Enroll for this pottery/clay camp to explore your creative interest. All
levels welcome, including parent-child teams! Students will discover the
transformational qualities of clay and learn, using different techniques, how to
hand build a favorite bowl, a personalized mug and more. They will learn to
decorate the surface using various patterns, textures and glazes. A new project
will be taught each day. The camp offers a fun, creative and learning
environment with step by step instructions, personal attention and regular demonstrations.
Attendees will create something unique and one of a kind objects with their hands!
