Press Release 05/24/2018 ANNUAL SHOW & OPEN HOUSE at the CENTER FOR ARTS AND WELLNESS – Open to All! The Center for Arts and Wellness in Westborough has crossed an important milestone and is in its second year! It opened its doors in October 2016 as a unique and humble concept of bringing art and health together by two local artists, Hema Iyengar and Vandana Rao. To mark this milestone and showcase the hard work and immense talent of its students, Center for Arts & Wellness is hosting its 1st Annual Show on June 9th at the Placentino Elementary School in Holliston. Hema Iyengar teaches Bharatanatyam, an ancient South Indian dance form, while Vandana Rao is a Hindustani classical vocal teacher. Both have been actively practicing and teaching their respective art forms in the Metrowest area for many years. The Center for Arts and Wellness which started with a small group of teachers and a handful of students, has now grown to a sizeable family of 15 teachers and over 150 students! On their Arts track, classes range from Dance (Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Bollywood, and now Jazz, and Ballet), Vocal (Hindustani, Carnatic, Western), Instrument (Guitar, Flute, Piano, Mridangam and Tabla), Drawing/Painting, Henna Tattoo, Arts & Crafts, Ceramics-Pottery, Speech & Debate, and Cake Decoration, and on their Wellness track they offer Bolly-Aerobics, Yoga and Meditation and experiment with other forms of fitness such as Bolly-Zumba, MetaFit, and TIMBo. The 1st Annual Show will be an event to remember that brings to a single platform rich talent from across the Metrowest area in the form of various performances by students of all ages. From the age of 3 to 65 the enthusiasm and energy of the students will be evident in their different music and dance recitals! For the first time ever in New England, practitioners and teachers of various art forms are collaborating to create signature fusion performances that will be showcased at this Annual Day! During the Annual Day event, the Center for Arts and Wellness is also hosting an Open House giving attendees an opportunity to learn about its various programs, events and classes, talk to the teachers and experience wellness avenues. Along with performances and the open house, which will be the main highlight of the day, the Annual Day event will also host a Vendor Bazaar – a fun shopping opportunity providing local businesses a platform to reach a broader community base and increase their own business prospects; a way for the Center to give back to the community and support fellow-local businesses, many who are small businesses. The Center for Arts & Wellness has tried in its first year to foster and facilitate community engagement, multi-cultural activities, wellbeing and sharing. It is poised to embark on its second year with a more robust set of programs and classes to appeal to all ages and interests! Come and join the gala event to learn more about the Center and witness a once-a-year phenomenon of arts, culture and diversity of performances.
