East Meets West - Beautiful Music Serving A Great Cause

Joy Guru Humanitarian Services founders Dr. Satya & Mrs. Sheema Mitra presented an evening of unique classical music. The event titled “The Essence” featured a confluence of three classical styles – Hindustani, Carnatic and Western Classical. 

Over 300 people attended the event that was held at the Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA on Friday, April 13, 2018. “THE ESSENCE” Where East Meets West, featuring three world renowned musicians from the Indian classical tradition, the Mass. Symphony Orchestra, with a special appearance from the Natyamani School of Dance.

The event opened with a Bharatanatyam presentation by Amrita Ajai Thirumalai and Shriya Srinivas who performed Shri Vigna Rajam Baje in the Ragam Gambeera Nattai. They dazzled the audience with their lovely presention. 

The rest of the evening featured several musical stalwarts. Western music was presented by the Mass Symphony Orchestra Musicians. Vidwan Jayachandra Rao of Bangalore and Tarun Bangalore dazzled the audience with their percussion duet. 

Then Sitar maestro Ustad Parvez and Tabla Maestro Anindo Chatterjee took the stage and mesmerized the audience with their brilliant rendition of Hindustani Classical Music. 

The great musical evening filled the soul with great joy. A special shout out to the young Indian Americans born and raised in New England, Amrita Ajai Thriumalai, Shriya Srinivas and Tarun Banglore who assure us with their artistry that the future of Indian classical music and dance is assured in New England. 

The goal of the event was to raise funds to support humanitarian causes through the Joy Guru Foundation. 

JoyGuru Humanitarian Services focuses on:
* Serving and treating vision impaired and blind people who cannot afford care
* Helping combat poverty by providing food, clothing, medicine and education
* Empowering girls & women through self-defense and education
* Discovering the inner potential of underprivileged children in the community by opening a “School of Good Citizenship”
* Teaching classes on managing personal finances and public speaking for underprivileged children in the community.

The ultimate goal for the foundation is to establish the “JOYGURU HUMANITARIAN CENTER” in Worcester, MA. This facility will include an eye clinic, food distribution center for the homeless, and classroom facilities where these and other services will be provided free of charge to the underprivileged.
