(This article is sponsored by Masala Art) The India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) organized a fun-filled Mela to celebrate India's Republic Day. The event was held at the Burlington High School on Jan 27, 2018 and attracted over 2000 people.
In addition to a colorful talent showcase that presented a variety of song and dance sequences - classical, folk and contemporary from different regions of India, there were several competitions held where kids could put their talent to test - be it in chess, science or poetry. The cultural items were coordinated by Rajesh Pai, Poornima Risbud, Nikita Rao, Ranjani Saiga, Randell D'Souza, Mohanam-Resmi Narayanan, Priti Shokeen, Bina Negandhi, Jyothi Setty, Darshana Jani, Vaishali Gade, Shradha Baride, Neena Gulhati, Umesh Rao, Smitha Paul, Reena Beji, Jasmine Shah, Anusha Mysore Prabhakar, Himanshi Patel, Ekta Jain, Vasudha Kudrimoti, Swasthi Bhargava, Vrushali Phirke and Archana Gorur.
IAGB is an organization where people of all Indian ethnic backgrounds come together. The events have always had a strong focus on promoting children's talent. Over 300 people participated in the events.
"Kudos to the IAGB team and an army of volunteers, who worked very hard over the past couple of months to organize such an incredible event", said Aditi Taylor, President of IAGB. "While there are many aspects to the program’s success, the highlight of the day are the cultural performances and the various competitions. The cultural performances segment was ably led by culture committee leads Lata Rao and Umesh Rao and the competitions segment was managed by Swati Gahlaut, IAGB volunteer. We are truly overwhelmed by the participation from everyone making it a largest attended Republic Day event in the recent years. Our sincere thanks to the IAGB members, supporters, performers, competition participants, team leads, exhibitors, sponsors and audience for their enthusiastic participation in the IAGB Republic Day Mela 2018," said Taylor.
The event ran with the generous support from 3 corporate sponsors, 12 advertisers and 18 vendors.
"It was absolutely well organized cultural extravaganza and the performances were of high caliber - great job by IAGB team," said Deepak Shinde, a resident of Littleton, who attended the event with his friends for the first time.
