Saheli’s legal clinic held on January 23rd in Quincy a success!

Saheli introduced a new pilot project in legal assistance for South Asian immigrant population in November 2017. Six legal clinics in immigration and family law are being offered with the support of six practicing attorneys in the field.  The South Asian Bar Association, headquartered in Washington, D.C. and the Harry Dow Memorial Legal Assistance Fund in Boston are funding this pilot project for Saheli.

The third in the series, Saheli held its legal clinic on Jan 23rd in Quincy. Several members of the immigrant community walked into the clinic and took advantage of the free 15-minute consultation with the attorneys to have their questions regarding immigration and family law answered. Jessica Chicco, Senior Immigration Attorney, and Anne Sheldon, Staff Attorney, both from DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended), a sister DV organization, conducted the clinic.

In addition to walk-ins, Saheli also accommodated direct calls from clients who could not be there in person and several DV Advocates present on behalf of their clients for consultation with the attorneys. The clinic was a success.

The first two legal clinics were held at the Cambridge Public Library in November and December. Attorneys Trupti Patel and Manisha Bhatt conducted each of the two legal clinics.

Saheli will be announcing the date and venue of the next legal clinic on our website: saheliboston.org as well as on social media. Stay tuned.
