Press Release 10/26/2017
Gokul Natesan and Amjyot Singh were chosen in the 2017 NBA G League draft.
Natesan was selected by the Canton Charge in the fourth round at pick No. 97. A resident of California, Natesan has ties to Tamil Nadu where his parents emigrated from.
He finished as a First Team ALL Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player during the 2016-2017 season. Additionally, Natesan, in averaging 18.5 points per game, 4.1 assists per game — both Colorado School of Mines team highs — was named the RMAC Academic Player of the Year. He led his team to the NCAA Division 2 Elite 8 round for the first time in school history. See earlier India-West story here).
Singh, who was unable to enter the draft in 2016, was chosen by the Oklahoma City Blue at No. 103.
The new Blue player is the second Indian player to be selected in the G League draft, joining Palpreet Singh, who was taken in the 2016 draft. Including NBA draft selection of the Dallas Mavericks in 2015 Satnam Singh, a total of three India-based players have been taken across all NBA platforms.
Singh, a 6-foot-8 forward from Chandigarh, captained the India team and was the leading scorer at the recently-concluded FIBA Asia Cup in Lebanon.
