Evening Of Ghazal And Sufi Music Presented By Dhananjay Kaul

Early this month Sufi singer Shri Dhananjay kaul enthralled the music lovers of New England with two concerts, one for Urdu audience and the other for Kashmiri audience at Baithak- Framingham,MA . The event was hosted by the Kashmiri Overseas association, Boston chapter.
He has been invited to perform at many prestigious places like -Sangeet Saptak Festival, World Music festival , Virasat Int festival “Dargah ke Mureedâ€-Amir khushro’s qalam, Thumri program for ETV urdu, he has composed music for Opera Pari Mehal written by padmashree M.L Saqi, he has Composed around 700 songs based on Kashmiri Sufi Poetry, Punjabi Sufi Qalam, Urdu Poetry, Sanskrit, Hindi, Awadhi, Poorbi and several compositions and bandishes as well. He represented “Punjab Angg†at the festival of India in Spain and Senegal. He is a part of panel at ICCR and has revived National fellowship.

The MC for both the evenings was well known local poet Sunayana Kachroo. She attributed Dhananjay’s singing to his roots in Kashmir while having learnt from various Gurus and perfecting the nuances of Panjab angg of Patiala Gharana. She shared beautiful Urdu, Kashmiri verses during the performance.
Shri Dhananjay ji mesmerized the audience with a fine rendition of many iconic ghazals, thumris and bandishes like , “Woh dil nawaz hai lekinâ€, “Baat karni mujhe mushqil†, “Yaad piya ki aayeâ€, “Abke ham bichdeâ€. The evening reached its zenith when he sang Bulley shah, Heer and many other sufi qawali’s .
For the Kashmiri evening, Dhananjay ji sang many sufiyana compositions like “Che Kamyu Karnay Taveez Pann†, “Roz-roz bozu†, “Myha gov muhabbat zyaad†and ended the evening with the revolutionary and still relevant poem by Dina nath Nadim-B gyav na aaz su nagma kahâ€
He was accompanied by Adhirath Bollapragada -Adhi, on Tabla. Jawed Wahid provided the technical support for the sound and other logistics for the Baithak.
