Friends of Indian Senior Citizens Organization, (FISCO) Burlington, MA celebrated their first outdoor event on Norwegian Cruise Lines to Bermuda on May 26, 2017.
Rita Shah, founder of the organization thought about organizing a one-week cruise sailing from Boston and back to Boston taking seniors out in the warm after a long winter.
There were 28 seniors on the cruise from Boston area and two couples who were travelling from South Africa joined the group. All seniors were in the various age group from 50 years to 84 years old. This event offered an unique opportunity to all to enjoy their life very openly without any worry of home. I could not imagine an eighty four year old man and his wife jumping into hot tub at six o’clock in the morning! And tirelessly enjoying all day including amazing night shows.
Rita Shah was kind enough to take care of all paper works for the seniors. She even requested a separate dining room and vegetarian Indian dinner for FISCO group. A special conference room was available where we had morning meeting to explore all the activities during the day.
We spent four days on the ocean including round trip from Boston to Bermuda and three days on the Bermuda island. Our ship was parked for three days at the King’s Wharf Cruise Port, Royal Naval Dockyard. From there all of us enjoyed various excursion packages on the shore that include Glass Bottom Boat tour Immersing in Bermuda's underwater world without getting wet during this 1.5-hour glass bottom boat cruise peering through the boat's glass bottom at the marine activities where turtles find their lunch, the bustling coral reefs and the shipwreck of HMS Vixen. And another day was packed with touring famous Crystal Caves, a remarkable natural attraction full of stalactite and stalagmite formations, walking down 83 steps to a floating pontoon pathway, which leads to even better parts of the caves. After the caves, the group visited Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo. We also spent time exploring the capital city of Hamilton, with a short tour and the chance to do some shopping. A small, vibrant and friendly city, Hamilton is the heart of Bermuda and its center of shipping and trade. In addition, a short ferry ride to St. George historic island was a great fun. 16th century St. Peter’s church a country style setting with old buildings, bars shopping areas were unique.
FISCO’s founder Rita Shah Rajesh Shah (husband), President Dinesh Shah Saroj Shah (wife), Vice President Raman Gandhi and Ramila Gandhi (wife), Treasurer Rakshit Mazumdar and Jyoti Mazumdar (wife) and Director Jayanti Patel and Bharati Patel (wife) participated in different ways to make this trip a great success.
