Jay Srinivasan 11/20/2003 New England's one of the largest Hindu worship place, Sri Lakshmi Temple celebrated the Diwali celebrations for 3 days in a grand manner. Officers and Trustees of the temple had worked hard for past several weeks to complete decoration the mahamandapam with special contrast gold and gray paint to being out the beauty of the temple architecture and finish the Rajagopuram repairs, just in time for the diwali celebrations. Those who have not visited the temple were wowed by the renovation efforts at the temple. The temple glittered with its shinny new granite floor in the basement and main hall. This year it is estimated atleast nearly 5000 devotees came on day 1 and about 10000 devotees from all over New England visited the temple each day. Since this year's diwali celebrations were on a weekend, the devotees came in steady stream. However temple operations had made security arrangements by having police to control the traffic flow and safety. Celebrations include usual special decorations for all deities, Lakshaarchana for Goodess Sri Lakshmi sponsored by more than 108 devotees, distribution of Diwali snacks and traditional diwali fire works. Organizers had plenty of sparklers for kids and for many US born kids, this was the first time they had held a sparkler in their hands. Kids and adults had a blast lighting the sparklers. Some devotees commented that they felt they were in India celebrating the Diwali. You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
