Dr. Sahdev Passey 11/20/2003 IMANE was established in 1978 to address the issues of social, cultural, educational and professional needs of the physicians of Indian Origin settled in the New England area. Starting with a handful of physicians in Massachusetts, this organization has grown to have over three hundred members scattered all over the New England States. Since its inception IMANE has been actively involved in community service projects here in Massachusetts. Among the invited guests were the Honorable Mayor of City of Worcester, Timothy Murray and President of the AAPI, Dr. Sharad Lakhanpal. In his address Mayor Murray praised and expressed his gratitude for the services provided physicians of Indian origin within the community. He presented a Key to the City of Worcester to IMANE to honor and recognize the community services provided by the members of IMANE during various health fairs held throughout the City and surrounding towns. IMANE, in collaboration with the India Society of Worcester, has been conducting health fairs in Worcester for the last fifteen years. Dr. Sahdev R. Passey, 25th President of IMANE, accepted the award on behalf of the membership. In his address, Dr. Sharad Lakhanpal praised the accomplishments of IMANE. He also recognized the leadership roll played by the members of IMANE in the development, support and progress of AAPI. He specifically mentioned the leadership role provided by Dr. Chander Kapasi, Dr. Jayshanker, Dr. Babu Ramdev, Dr. Ram Upadhyay and many others at the national level. The highlight of the program was the recognition of all the past twenty-five Presidents of IMANE. Seventeen out of twenty-five past presidents were present at the meeting. They were honored with a plaque and a special Presidential pin. Dr. Ram Upadhyay was also honored for his continued service to the community. IMANE has become affiliated with a free health clinic in Waltham, MA. This clinic provides medical services to the needy and uninsured in the area. Dr. Richard Daly, Medical Director of the health clinic was presented with a check for $1,500.00 in support the clinic. The atmosphere for the evening was elevated by the colorful decorations done by Nalini’s Creations. The MC for the evening was Dr. Lalit Savla. After the presentations, those attending enjoyed a wonderful Indian dinner catered by the Chef of India followed by the sounds of the musical group Saptaswar. As an added surprise everyone who attended the meeting also received a seventy-eight page Souvenir Booklet that documented the last twenty-five glorious years of IMANE. This booklet contains reports, photographs and the recollections of many of the past presidents. The meeting closed with the introduction of the 26th President, Dr. Onaly Kapasi.
