TBP Press Release – Nilanjana Rakhit 11/20/2003 The Boston Pledge, Inc. (TBP) a non-profit humanitarian organization headquartered in Boston will organize a Conference on Saturday, December 20th at the Wong Auditorium in Building E51 (70 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, MA) at MIT from 1:30 to 5:30 pm to celebrate the Annual TBP Day. The Conference will primarily focus on Meeting the Challenge of Arsenic in Water. TBP will bring together resources from the academia, the industry, NGOs, government bodies, students and interested citizens to find a sustainable solution to the rising arsenic crisis. Water is the most essential element of human life, yet millions around the world today drink from wells, which they know, are contaminated with poisonous substances like arsenic and other toxins. To build awareness to such issues and support individuals and agencies committed to such missions TBP will bring together renowned scientists, technologists and industry leaders to discuss the problem in-depth, examine historical and geological causes and currently available technologies for combating the problem. TBP is committed to undertake initiatives so that people world-wide have access to clean drinking water, a basic necessity that sustain and develop life and civilization. For example, in South and South-East Asia, North America and Western Europe, TBP is active in projects that lead to cleaner water and air, provide access to basic knowledge, and cultivate the spirit of entrepreneurship. The Conference will also highlight other on going activities of TBP on socio-economic development. As concerned citizens, by actively participating in this conference you can “make a difference” in the lives of millions of people who are affected by arsenic poisoning in certain parts of our global village. TBP hopes that your help will catalyze the development of sustainable market mechanisms to provide clean drinking water, a fundamental right of all mankind. The Boston Pledge will look forward to your visible presence and support for this important conference at MIT.
