Ekal USA Founder Wins Pravasi Bharatiya Samman

Ramesh Shah, who is the founder of Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of USA was honored at the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman for his work to support the development of remote rural villages in India. New Englander Mahesh Mehta also received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman. 

The 15th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention was held on 7 – 9 January 2017 in Bengaluru  Hon’ble President Parnab Mukherjee presented the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Samman to several leading Non-Resident Indians. This is the highest award that is given by the Indian government to NRIs.

Ramesh Shah, founder of Ekal Vidyalaya USA was one of the recipients of the award. Mahesh Mehta from New England,  was also honored with this award.  Both were honored for their community service.  Mahesh Mehta has been a mentor to several organizations in the US including the VHP of America.  His thoughts and guidance have inspired several leaders in the US and in India. 

The annual global convention this year had   record participation since its inception.
Fourteen States, including Karnataka, Kerala, Assam, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh had put up stalls at the exhibition.

Foreign dignitaries including Surinamese Vice-President Michael Ashwin Adhin, Portuguese Prime Minister H.E AntAnio Costa and chief ministers from seven States participated in the event.
