Paramahansa Yogananda  was born on January 5, 1893 and took Maha Samadhi on March 7, 1952 in Los Angles.

He was born in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, to a devout family. According to his younger brother, Sananda, from his earliest years young Mukunda's awareness and experience of the spiritual was far beyond the ordinary.

He arrived to USA in August of 1920 to Boston to serve as the delegate from India to an International Congress of Religious Liberals in America. It was to convene that year in Boston, under the auspices of the American Unitarian Association.

He founded Self Realization Fellowship known as SRF.
