Subcontinental Drift (SubDrift), Boston Organizes Its Monthly Open Mic Event

Subcontinental Drift (SubDrift), Boston organized its monthly open mic event on Friday, 18 November, 2016 at EWM book store, Cambridge, MA and dedicated this month’s program to the theme of “Healing.” Many South Asian enthusiastic youngsters as performers and great audience rushed to the place and filled the hall with their energy and beautiful smiles. For them Subcontinental Drift is more than an ordinary open mic night. Every artists came with ample confidence as it was a chance for them to perform before audiences that really enjoy and encourage them for their future presentation.

Mr. Aditya Nochur, the lead organizer welcomed warmly all the performers and the audiences and thanked them for their interest and support to the success of the SubDrift momentum.  He said very proudly that it is a place where you can try new things and showcase your talents and also make meaningful connections with others and have the audience understand your hidden talents. He further stated that one of the aims of the SubDrift is to create a space on the mic for folks to speak out about whatever is there on their minds and hearts. Mr. Aditya invited one by one all open mic performers to present their item/s on the theme.

The performers of the evening exhibited their various flairs via SubDrift open mic talent showcase. The evening acts included original funny poetry recitations, vocal and instrumental performances, humorous epilogs, and dance performance. Mr. Aditya Nochur recited a poetry that narrated the splendor of living in one World. Mr. Shahir sang a beautiful Irish song on Indian Harmonica which audience enjoyed a lot as it was for the first time a singer sang a non-Indian song on a Harmonium. Ms. Priyasha and Ms. Shruthi sang a melodic Bollywood song. Mr. Maitreya sang a tuneful sweet Bengali song and entertained the audience. Mr. Pankaj from Italy who is on his sabbatical cancer research here read three of his short poems on the effects of the recent violent evets in the world. A Mellow and euphonious English song was sung by Ms. Reshica and Ms. Taylor entertained the audience with her lovely Bhangra dance. Many more showcased their talents on the floor and made the evening a unique experience to everyone.

Hindustani classical singer Mr. Aditya Rohit was presented as a featured performer for this month. Aditya Rohit was accompanied by Rohit Panchakshari on tabla. Mr. As a team, they presented wonderful closing episode of the program. Aditya Rohit was a student of Pt. Radharaman Kirtane ji and Pt. Rattan Mohan Sharma ji of the Mewati Gharana. As the raga developed, the audience was drawn into its tunes and rhythms, and a thoughtful meditation descending upon both the audience and the players. As the raga progressed to its faster and more vibrant parts, audience started nodding their heads and body and this continued in waves.

All the performers were very gifted and talented who brought out the voices and souls of their instruments and hearts. With their creativity, they transformed our daily mechanical life into an extraordinary experience. "I feel really good about being part of the SubDrift. It is a great thing to have South Asians come together and showcase their creativity. I can say with certainty that it was one of the most cleansing and invigorating experiences to all. I felt engaged, invigorated, and excited.” said one of the audiences.
