Two Big Cultural Events at The Chinmaya Mission, Boston in Andover
(October 15th and 23rd)
The Chinmaya Mission, Boston in Andover has now developed an undisputable reputation for organizing high quality cultural events such as dance and music by top artists visiting from India as well as our own local artists.
Two such great events will be taking place in the Chinmaya Maruti auditorium in Andover this month, both sponsored and organized by the Chinmaya Mission, Boston.
The first one is a Bharathanatyam program titled Desh, a thematic production by Sunanda Narayanan and Soumya Rajaram along with 6 senior students of Sunanda Narayanan and this program will be emceed by Smt. Sujatha Vijayaraghavan an exponent of dance and music and is also the mother of Sunanda.
Desh (Nation) is envisaged as a homage to India, on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of India's Independence. It is a reminiscence and a re-affirmation of the moral and spiritual legacy of the people of the Indian subcontinent, tracing their history from ancient times to the era of Independence.
This presentation highlights how conflicts - both internal and external have been resolved more through Self Control, Sacrifice, Compassion, and Tolerance than through aggression or armed warfare. Every age produce a leader who laid down percepts, led people to realization/freedom, and who is revered as the Upholder of Dharma (Righteousness).
The presentation falls into seven episodic parts in a format known as the Margam which projects a homogenous whole composed of heterogeneous numbers. The songs are in several Indian languages such as Tamil, Sanskrit, Bengali, Telugu, and Hindi. The episodes are drawn from Indian epics, legends and history. The dance is a combination of movements in rhythm, mime and drama.
Legendary artist Smt. Radha choreographed Desh in 1997 for sister Sumitra and Sunanda as a duo presentation. The concept, research and music are by Smt. Sujatha Vijayaraghavan. Tickets can be purchased at www.lokvani.com.
The second program is a Carnatic Vocal concert by Oscar nominee Smt. Bombay Jayashri.
Jayashri performed in Boston at the Chinmaya Mission 8 years ago in a sold out auditorium and gave an amazing 4 hour long performance.
This concert that is to take place on the 23rd is already sold out except for 5 premium tickets at this point and they can be purchased at www.lokvani.com. The organizers not wanting to disappoint any last minute fans will be adding extra seats in the auditorium and will also be telecasting the program in the community hall down stairs on the program day.
