George Abraham 04/21/2016 The Indian Gospel Melodies (IGM) is a non-profit group with the motto ‘Music with a Mission’. On April 16, 2016, IGM presented a moving concert in support of the Refugee Immigration Ministry. Under the direction of Christy Mathew, from the Berklee School of Music, known in Indian circles for his musical genius, a packed audience of over 400 people was held spellbound for 90 minutes with a blend of Eastern and Western music along with a full orchestra and band. The program included 11 songs in English and other languages, including Hindi, Tamil, etc. presented by a choir of 35 singers (in addition to 20 youth and children), and featured a solo ‘O Paalanhaare’ by Sowmya Vashista, as also, accompaniment on the tabla by Harshal Tole. Attendees mingled over refreshments after the concert. Dr. George Abraham, President of IGM, in his opening remarks, stated that over the years, IGM has done over 18 concerts through which, in addition to the music, they have raised donations, 100% of which go to support a charitable project primarily in India, but all over the globe. IGM occupies a unique space with a musical offering that combines Eastern and Western contemporary music presented as a chorale with a band and orchestra.
