MONA DAARRLING!!
Showcasing the divas of Bollywood's razzle and dazzle
Boston is not only considered the most European city of America, but also the cultural heart of the nation. The South Asians are proud to play their part in maintaining this reputation and over the past few years, their contribution in this cultural melting pot has become even more significant and visible. Over the years, they have evolved and cultivated themselves into a vibrant pool of abundantly varied talent in the performing arts, with a rich mix of classical, folk, film music and dance shows. The year is still in its first quarter and yet the calendar is filling up fast with many promising events now in the pipeline.
The March 19th evening will raise the curtain to Mona Daarrling!!, where the Dancing Divas Boston and other prominent local stars, passionately present a very powerful and high-energy concert combining dazzling cabaret-styled dances, racy music and songs to go together with stand-up comedy, a blend that the South Asian community has not seen before in Boston.
Over the last few years, Shikha Bajpai and her Dancing Divas Boston have continued to collaborate with many local artists and have enriched the local scene by their super-charged performances at various socio-cultural and charity events in Boston's vibrant cultural space. They have come to be known as daring and riveting on stage, receiving many awards at competitions for their spectacular style of performances. This would, however, be the first time to experience their unbridled energy and innovative choreography, combining with the very best of the Boston’s local talent in performing arts to support them, all in one big glittering concert.
The team joins hands to collectively celebrate and pay a passionate tribute to the dazzling cabaret queens of Indian cinema who have undoubtedly made a significant contribution to the entertainment culture, sometimes referred to as bolly good. Their sultry songs and seductive moves, combining the character of the vamp and the cabaret dancer into one figure, has become an integral part of the Indian cinema over the last 60+ years. Yet, not much is written about them and even less discussed. Interestingly, their songs have often carried a strong message on various complexities of life. Times have changed and today, no wedding in a film script is considered complete without an “item songâ€. So from Helen, Aruna Irani, Bindu to Parveen Babi, Rekha and Mumtaz, further extended by the newer “item girlsâ€, this concert will showcase their work, in a highly glittering evening of enthralling live entertainment, confident of projecting the grace and elegance of these divas of the Bollywood cabaret.
We have come to know of the Dancing Divas Boston as a dynamic group of young women, who juggle busy professional and family lives while always keeping their passion alive. Along with Siraj Khan, the Director of Mona Daarrling, they have been working for the past several months on every detail of the production of this show.
For those who plan to attend, unlimited fun and surprises are guaranteed. Everyone is encouraged to adorn a flashy attire of their choice as there is a prize for the most unusually dressed lady, off the beaten track.
