Kavitha Ravi 02/18/2016 IAL has been very
aware of the growing need of the community's involvement in addressing some of the key
issues concerning Indians in our town such as academic stress, pressures to
succeed and the pressures our children go through being part of two cultures.
IAL recently
held a School Committee Candidate Forum at the Cary Memorial Library on Feb 7th to question the candidates on some of these issues. Candidates included Sandro Alessandrini,
Claire Sheth and Eileen Jay. The Objective was
to raise awareness about the School
Committee with IAL and Indian Americans, Candidates pitched on the issues that
ranged from stress in schools, use of technology, answered questions on School
Committee, how students are preparing for the global world and what would they do to improve some of the existing issues in
schools. Candidates shared their views on these topics and highlighted their priorities. IAL have been involved
in the following initiative to address these needs and looking forward to work
closely with School Committee members in future: - IAL co-sponsored the
workshop on Mental Health for Asian Children with LYFS and CAAL in Cary Hall - IAL partnered with
LYFS and CAAL to organize three part series workshop on parent to parent
dialogue, teen dialogue and parent and teen dialogue. - IAL was one of the
sponsors for Parent's Academy - IAL worked with
PTA/PTO and other groups to organize Success through Connection Forum last year
as well this year - IAL is working with
Lex Coalition to address the issues related to children in our town - IAL, CAAL and COLEX
has formed a group called LACA (Lexington Asian Community Alliance) to work
together to address the needs of Asians community in out town. We hosted an
event named Academic Burnout last year in Cary Memorial library. You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
