Healthy Start To The Day

Lemon Water

 I’ve recently decided to give up my morning coffee in favor of warm lemon water. Lemon water is packed with awesome stuff including vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and fiber that helps your body start the day off on the right foot. Lemon is so acidic that it isn’t great for your teeth, so it’s important to dilute it with water (preferably warm water). So just fill up a glass, squeeze in half a lemon, and enjoy. Be sure to wait 15-20 minutes before having breakfast to enjoy the full benefits.

Meditate

One way to utilize those 15 minutes of waiting is to meditate. I know meditation may sound a little hippy-dippy to some, but it's really just the act of slowing down your mind and focusing on your breathing. You won’t be an expert at first, but you will quickly learn to appreciate those moments of stillness. There are so many studies that prove that a morning meditation practice is a great way to start your day for reducing stress and focusing your mind. Many highly successful individuals have some sort of meditation practice incorporated into their day.

 Stretch

If you don’t have time to exercise in the morning, then working in a short 10-minute stretching session can do wonders. This is especially useful for so many of us that spend all day sitting behind a desk. Modern day people suffer so many ailments related to their daily habits that prevent regular movement and stretching of their bodies. One way to create this habit it to place a yoga mat next to your bed so that you are reminded every morning to stretch out your muscles. You can even find a 10-minute yoga lesson on Youtube and knock that out each morning.

 Eat a Healthy Breakfast

 Now that you’ve made time to really start your morning off great, don’t skimp in the breakfast department. There are so many breakfast hacks to help people to feel that they don’t have time in the morning to eat this important meal. My favorite is to bake a giant breakfast casserole on Sunday night and eat off it all week. You will feel so much more energized if you each a protein-filled breakfast rather than a cup of coffee and a piece of chocolate (I’ve been that person, too, for the record).
