Meditation is medication, according to pharmacist and yoga therapist Jay Gupta. He was joined by guest faculty member Amita R. Chopra, MD as well as Terry Gupta, MSW of RxRelax.com, to provide a weekend retreat to a group of healthcare professionals in Manchester, NH. The topic, of course, was on the simple, elegant and smart power of meditation. The course is one of a 5-part RxRelax series that focuses on (1) self-care and (2) sharing selected therapeutic yoga techniques in their respective practice settings.
The top floor at Catholic Medical Center provided an extraordinary setting, complete with brilliant sunsets overlooking the city skyline reflecting upon our own inner radiance. The weekend yielded 15.0 CMEs for the physicians and advanced practice nurses, and 15.0 CEs for the nurses. One of the practitioners especially appreciated “the demonstration and practice, along with the complete and concise written and AV materialâ€. The series overall has a 99% evaluation score and graduates are teaching yoga in hospitals, community health/mental health centers, corporations and schools. The next course begins January 16, 2016 at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH.
Jay Gupta noted the importance of self-care for all of us. “Whether you are a healthcare professional or not, each one of us can readily increase our compassion and enhance our physical and mental health by keeping our own cup full. We keep it easy to do, safe and science-based, and the participants get great results.†A number of nurses, including Susan Patz, describe the series as “life-changingâ€. Pushpa Mudan, MD observe that that “the benefits that I am experiencing are indescribable. It’s unbelievable! I have done courses before; but this is unlike anything else I’ve experienced. I am so so happy that I did this. I would recommend this for anyone. It improved my physical, mental and emotional well-being, which I needed after being a caregiver for so many years, for so many people… and finally this has helped me take care of myself in all aspects which is unbelievable. I can’t wait to finish this course and be able to teach and help othersâ€.
