About the recital
Rarely does one come across a combination of the three-fold approach — geetam (vocal music), vaadyam (instrument) and nrityam (dance) — in a Bharatanatyam dancer. Trained in yoga, mridangam, vocal music, Sanskrit and Bharatanatyam, US based dancer Sujatha Srinivasan brings an unique dimension to dance. Right from her teenage years many awards have come her way. She is the recipient of the — M.G.R. Award for Best Young Dancer from The Music Academy (1987), Outstanding Young Person of India from Indian Jaycees (1988), Yuva Kala Bharati (Bharat Kalachar - 1991), Best Dancer Award from Narada Gana Sabha (1992), Natana Mamani (Kartik Fine Arts - 1993), apart from scholarships from Government of India and other cultural organisations.

She has trained under the finest teachers including guru Lalitha from Saraswathi Gana Nilayam, Chitra Visweswaran, Swamimalai K. Rajaratnam and Kalanidhi Narayanan. She learnt Mridangam from Kumbakonam Narayanaswamy Iyer. She has given several performances in the US and around the world.

India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF) and the Indian Society at Tufts (ISAT)are sponsoring a recital by this fine dancer on Saturday, September 20th at 4:30 pm. The dancer will be accompanied by a live orchestra featuring outstanding musicians from India. Proceeds from the concert will be sent to Ved Mandir for supporting orphaned children & victims of terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir, India.
