For the 5th time in a row, the "Seshu Strong Team" has participated in the annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk - 2015 along with thousands of other walkers on Sunday the 27th September, 2015 to spread Cancer Awareness and Fundraising to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and in-support of cancer patients and their families. Most of the team members did a full marathon from its 26.2 mile start point at Hopkinton, MA while others joined at 13.1 mile and 5 mile start points and everyone reached safely the Finish Line at Copley Square, Boston, MA. The team captain Nitya Yelamanchili (Chelmsford High School) lead the entire team. We sincerely thank all our team Walkers, Donors and supporters for encouraging to do this walk year after year. Because of their generosity "Seshu Strong" team could able to raise $60,000+ in just 5 years (including this year) to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Jimmy Fund.
In 2011 when Seshu Kandukuri, a high school student from Grafton MA, walked 26.2 miles along with 30+ team members for himself and for other kids, whom he always treated them as his other brothers and sisters, who have been taking cancer treatment at Jimmy Fund / Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, that spirit not only made the team members successfully complete the full marathon during the team’s first time participation that year but also made the team continue to participate through its 5th year i.e. 2015.
Kids play a major role in Seshu Strong team by participating not only as a walker but also actively raise funds through their parents, friends at school and by setting up fundraising booths in local community events. For 2015 Nitya Yelamanchili from Chelmsford High School, MA is the Lead Captain of the team has successfully raised over $1,600 just this year. Nitya with the help of her friends had set up charity stalls at various community events in and around Greater Boston area in 2014 and 2015. Also there is another well-wisher and team member in Acton graciously support the team by raising the funds that are generated from her Java Computer Program teaching to high school students.
In just 5 years (2011 to 2015) a total of 137 walkers have collectively raised $63,000 (as of 09/2015) with the support of generous donors, supporters and well-wishers. The Seshu Strong Team is very much thankful to everyone who have directly or indirectly supporting the team year after year. Also the team convey its sincere thanks to all the community/charity organizations and individual community members those who been supporting this noble cause in various ways.
All funds donated directly credited to Jimmy Fund / Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston for the benefit of Cancer Research and patient care. For 2015 the dead-line for Jimmy Fund Walk fundraising is 31st October, 2015. As the team is very close to $8,000 of successful fundraising this year but still there is a need of additional $2,000 towards its annual fundraise goal of $10,000. Hopefully this will put the team's overall fundraise to $65K soon. Fundraising link: www.JimmyFundWalk.org/2015/SeshuStrong
Also the Seshu Strong team is not going to end their efforts with this but will continue to participate in future years in support of Cancer patients and their families.
