Amandeep Singh and Satnam Kandola 10/01/2015
On Saturday September 26, 2015, the 2nd Annual "A Night in Punjab" was held at the Alex and Ani Center in Providence RI. This colorful event featured Turban tying, Bhangra, Giddha, Fashion show and performances by Raxstar (UK) and PropheC (Canada). The people of New England had been eagerly awaiting this event after last year’s success. The night kicked off with the sound of the traditional Punjabi Dhol. The festivities started with Turban tying in front of the Alex and Ani Center near the Kennedy plaza. Turban time was an endeavor to introduce people to the Sikh turban. The aim was to bring cultural awareness about Sikhs and dispel any fears by showing that we all belong to one human race. The aroma of delicious Punjabi food (by Bollywood Grill) and fresh Jalebis (by Hardial Singh) had long lines at the vendors. Emcee’s Montyislive and Suvrajyoti Kar travelled from NYC to host the event. They were fabulous! Bhangra, Giddha and traditional Punjabi dance performances transported the audience to the backyard of a big Haveli in a Punjab village. The atmosphere was electric. The Fashion Show presented Punjabi designer clothes. It was sponsored by Brocades Boutique of Brookline, MA, directed by Thalia Lopez, Aubree Dumas, and Satnam Kandola, make up by Joanna Petit-Frere (Visage1 studios), and hair by Nancy V Brown (NV My Hair). Infamoussingh launched his T shirt collection on the night. It was a great grand premiere of designs and captured a lot of interest. PropheC and Raxstar entertained the audience with their hit Punjabi songs and rap music. The crowd danced the night away! This event, which left everlasting memories, wouldn’t have been possible without Gursharn Kaur (Pangeaa Productions), Parvin Gill (Bollywood Grill), Brocades Boutique, Joanna Petit-Frere of Visage1 studios, Nancy V Brown of NV My Hair. Infamoussingh, Hardial Singh, Priscella Pinero, Wanderlust Solutions, HennaRain, The Sugar Artistry, and all other vendors. Gursharn is a Student at Johnson & Wales; she had a dream to host such a night that she realized last year and continued this year. She created a non-profit to help needy children; both in the USA and India. All the proceeds from the event went to Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
