When Farida Kathawalla, a Belmont native came back to Boston after a short stint in Paris with her family,she focused her attention on giving back to the community. Although she first came to the US to study and acquired an accounting degree, she says she felt a strong need to use her resources and connections to make a real difference in philanthrophy."Charity in any form – writing a check, giving your time – it has to come from within you and how you feel. To make a difference in someone's life, you don't have to be brilliant, wealthy, beautiful or perfect. You just have to care" she says earnestly.
"I truly live my life by the following Gandhi saying,"Be the change you wish to see in the world".
The path she chose led her first to volunteer at World Boston, where she helped develop the International Visitors Program." American India Foundation, a global philanthrophy followed next where she will serve as Co- Chair along with her husband Imtiaz in March of next year. As a steering committee member at the United Nations of Boston women's forum, she co sponsored an event where she brought Nicholas Kristoff to speak about his new book A Path Appears. Pursuing her passion for world cultures, women's rights and global education,she has helped Primary Source, a global education organization with the dinner/lecture series in 2013 as well as chaired the 25th year Primary source celebration in 2014. She also sits currently on the board of Primary Source.
Her other hobbies include travel and exploring different cultures and cuisine.Fitness also figures in her lifestyle."I am passionate about working out in the gym, taking a spin or kick boxing class or just hiking and biking. Lastly I enjoy cooking and entertaining with my family and friends".
