Fabulous music for a great cause was a phrase that was exemplified at the Piano recital presented by Siddharth Arun. This high schooler  held the audience spellbound with his two-hour concert held at the Medfield High School Auditorium on June 20, 2015. The concert was held to raise funds for Ekal Vidyalaya, an organization that brings education to children who live in remote rural areas in India.

“Through this recital, I hope to play a small part in bringing education to the underprivileged children in the rural and tribal villages of India. I believe that every child deserves an education regardless of their social or economic status, and that it is fundamental to an individual’s growth. I strongly feel that the education these children receive will help improve the quality of their lives and make a positive impact in their communities,” says Siddharth.

He played a variety of compositions by Mozart, Dvorjak, Beethoven and others. While most of the recital was solo, he was joined by his brother Aniruddh for playing a few pieces. After graduating from MIT, Aniruddh now is pursuing an MD at Johns Hopkins. Siddharth's playing of each piece was filled with great emotion while exhibiting technical excellence. To present a western classical concert of that length was indeed a treat.

It was very special to watch the brothers play together. “Music really brought us together and we enjoy playing together,” said Aniruddh.

The concert  helped raise over $5,000 which will help support a Village school for life. “I hope to visit a Ekal Vidyalaya during my summer vacation and volunteer at the village school. I hope to adopt a school near Coimbatore,” says Siddharth.

We applaud this young man’s talent and congratulate him on using this talent for such a great cause.
