UIA Health Fair - A Great Success

United India Association of New England (UIANE) hosted a free health fair on Sunday 6/28/15 from 10am-4pm at the Sheraton Needham Hotel,100 Cabot Street, Needham, MA.
The Educational presentations included Laugh, THINK NEUTRAL and Save your life-Dr.Sushil Bhatia, Digestive Health-GERD (heart burn), gastric ulcers and Chronic constipation-Dr. Aparna Repaka, Orthopedics-Dr.John-Paul D. Hezel, Diabetes Today-Dr. Greeshma Shetty, Heart Healthy Diet-Suman Kohli, Project Prakash-Vision, Dr. Pawan Sinha, Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare presentation-Brenda Cole, Health Care Proxy and Living Will-Mr. Girish Mehta, Safe at Home-Injury Prevention for Seniors-Karen Foulkrod, TMJ and Sleep Apnea-Dr. Amparo M. David, Vision and Health-Dr. Sabera Shah, and Depression and Anxiety-Dr. Nitigna V. Desai.
The Vendors and sponsors included Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, Walgreens who carried out Blood pressure readings and vaccine education, Costco who provided healthy samples and Whole Foods who prepared fresh smoothies and healthy food samples, Joslin Diabetes Asian American Initiative Dietician who provided Diabetes Education and healthy food recipe demo and also carried out BMI readings, Dana Farber provided Breast health education and areas in New England offering the free mamography van, Novo Nordisk, Tufts Health Plan, and Beth Israel Deaconess Needham. There was also opportunity to get Free vision screening by students from New England School of Optometry supervised by Dr. Sabera Shah, dental education by students from Tufts Dental Smile Squad and Maureen Strauss and Gail Weisberg, public health hygienists provided free dental screening and fluoride varnish, Dr. Amparo David provided TMJ screening and Dr. Nitigna Desai provided depression and anxiety screening, Sondarya Spa provided free handmade samples, Ravindran Mahadev from Ameriprise provided financial plans and ICC under Girish Mehta presented on the Health Proxy and Living Will. There was an energetic bollywood dance workout by Shikha Bajpai during lunch hour. The delicious lunch was catered by Walnut Grille in Newton Highlands. The program booklets were printed by Neelam Wali from Printing and Graphic Services. A mobile Blood Drive van sponsored by Dana Farber and Brigham and Womens’ Hospital was there from10-3 pm. All the blood collected at the health fair will benefit patients at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.I would like to thank the board members of the UIANE Committee especially Mr. Parvin Khetarpal, Vikas Sehli, Anil Sood, Yash Sood, Dr. Sapna Agarwal, Dr. Sheetal Ramesh, Shobha Khetarpal, Rakashi Chand, Mrs Raminder Luther, and Dr. Seema Arora.
