Yashaswini Makaram And Deepika Swaminathan Kurup Win At Intel ISEF

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, a program of Society for Science & the Public and the world's largest international pre-college science fair, announced May 14 the Special Award Organization winners, many of whom were Indian American students who won awards or recognition from more than one association or organization.

More than 60 organizations provided special awards for this event.
Following are the first place and second place Indian American winners by the organization presenting the award:

The American Statistical Association presented a second place award of $1,000 to Yashaswini Makaram, 17, of the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science, Worcester, Mass., who also won an award of $5,000 for outstanding project in the systems software category from the Oracle Academy.

A second Award for Water Technology was presented to Deepika Saraswathy Kurup, 17, of Nashua High School South, Nashua, N.H.

Acoustical Society of America presented $500 to second place winner Mukund Venkatakrishnan, 15, of DuPont Manual High School, Louisville, Ky.

The ADA Foundation gave its second place award of $1,000 to Aditya Tushar Mohile, 17, of Friendswood High School, Friendswood, Texas.

A first place award of $2,000 from the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists went to Aditya Anand Mohan, 18, of Colonel By Secondary School, Ottawa, Canada.

Another first place award of $4,000 from the American Chemical Society Education Division went to Arjun Srinivasan Ramani, 16, of West Lafayette Junior Senior High School, West Lafayette, Ind.

American Intellectual Property Law Association presented a $2,000 award to Diya Mathur, 16, of DuPont Manual High School, Louisville, Ky.

A second place award of $250 from the American Intellectual Property Law Association went to Puneeth Naga Sai Krishna Meruva, 17, of Homestead Senior High School, Fort Wayne, Ind.

The American Mathematical Society presented a $2,000 award to Nitya Mani, 17, of the Harker School, San Jose, Calif.

The American Physiological Society gave a second place award of $1,000 to Sanjana J. Rane, 17, of DuPont Manual High School, Louisville, Ky.

A first place award of $1,500 from the American Psychological Association went to Aansh Shah, 17, of Roslyn High School, Roslyn, New York.

A first place award of $1,000 for the Ashtavadhani Vidwan Ambati Subbaraya Chetty Foundation was presented to Sanjana J. Rane, 17, of DuPont Manual High School, Louisville, Ky.

The Ashtavadhani Vidwan Ambati Subbaraya Chetty Foundation also gave four second place awards of $500. One went to Vikas Rammohan Maturi, 17, of Carmel High School, Carmel, Ind.

Another second place award went to Swetha Revanur, 16, of Evergreen Valley High School, San Jose, Calif.

Also receiving a second place award was Naveena Bontha, 15, of Hanford High School, Richland, Wash., went to Naveena Bontha, 15, of Hanford High School, Richland, Wash.

The fourth second place award from the Ashtavadhani Vidwan Ambati Subbaraya Chetty Foundation was presented to Swapnil Pande, 17, of Mills E. Godwin High School, Henrico, Virg.

A second place award of $1,000 from the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence went to Suvir Prakash Mirchandani, 16, of Fox Chapel Area High School, Pittsburgh, Penn.

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence also gave a $500 second place award to Mihir Garimella, 15, of Fox Chapel Area High School, Pittsburgh, Penn.

The Astronomical Society of the Pacific and the American Astronomical Society presented the Priscilla and Bart Bok First Award of $1,000 to 16-year-olds Shashank and Shishir Dholakia, of Adrian C Wilcox High School, Santa Clara, Calif.

The China Association for Science and Technology presented awards of $1,200 to two Indian American students. They are:
Sadhika S. Malladi, 17, of the Harker School, San Jose, Calif., and Suvir Prakash Mirchandani, 16, of Fox Chapel Area High School, Pittsburgh, Penn.

An award of $2,000 for a project in oil spill related science, projects focusing on the ocean or coasts from the Consortium for Ocean Leadership went to Sahil Veeramoney, 15, of Oregon Episcopal School, Portland, Ore.

A similar award of $2,000 from the Consortium for Ocean Leadership was presented to Ishpreet Singh, 16, of Albemarle High School, Charlottesville, Virg.

A full tuition scholarship to Drexel University was presented to Maya Varma, 16, of Presentation High School, San Jose, Calif.

All expense paid trip from the European Organization for Nuclear Research-CERN to tour CERN was given to ten Indian American students for their various projects, many of whom had already won cash awards from other associations and organizations for their projects. They are: Nitya Mani, 17, of the Harker School, San Jose, Calif.; Krithika Iyer, 16, of iSchool High STEM Academy, Lewisville, Texas; Kavita Selva, 15, of Clear Lake High School, Houston, Texas; Jasmine Sumpter, 14, Seacoast Collegiate High School, Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and 16 year-olds Shashank and Shishir Dholakia, of Adrian C. Wilcox High School, Santa Clara, Calif.

Also winning the trip are Mihir Garimella, 15, of Fox Chapel Area High School, Pittsburgh, Penn.; Sahil Abbi, 16, of Herricks High School, New Hyde Park, New York; Arjun Kapoor, 17, The Wheatley School, Old Westbury, New York; and Suvir Prakash Mirchandani, 16, Fox Chapel Area High School, Pittsburgh, Penn.

GoDaddy presented a $1,500 Forward Thinker Award to Bimba Shrestha, 18, of the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, Fairfield, Iowa.

Receiving a first place award of $1,500 from the International Council on Systems Engineering was Mehar Kaushik Nallamalli, 17, of Capital High School, Olympia, Wash.

The K. Soumyanath Memorial Award of $3,000 went to first place winner Vikul Gupta, 16, of Oregon Episcopal School, Portland, Ore.

An Award for Water Technology from the King Abdul-Aziz & his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity went to Raashi Thakkar, 16, of the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, Denton, Texas.

The Monsanto Company awarded a second place prize of $1,500 to Saumya Ramadugu Keremane, 18, Martin Luther King High School, Riverside, Calif.

Mu Alpha Theta, National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society awarded a first place award of $1,500 to Vishal Rajesh, 16, of Plano Senior High School, Plano, Texas, and Nisha Rajesh, 15, of Jasper High School, Plano, Texas.

A second place award of $1,000 from Mu Alpha Theta was presented to Swapnil Pande, 17, of Mills E. Godwin High School, Henrico, Virg.

Another second place award of $1,000 from Mu Alpha Theta was presented to Sahil Abbi, 16, of Herricks High School, New Hyde Park, New York, and Arjun Kapoor, 17, of the Wheatley School, Old Westbury, New York.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration gave its $2,000 second place award to Jasmine Sumpter, 14, of Seacoast Collegiate High School, Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.

A first place award of $5000 from the National Anti-Vivisection Society went to Anisha Priya Valluri, 17, of Cabell Midland High School, Ona, W. Virg.

An award of $5,000 for outstanding project in the systems software category from the Oracle Academy went to Sahil Abbi, 16, Herricks High School, New Hyde Park, New York, and Arjun Kapoor, 17, The Wheatley School, Old Westbury, New York.

The Patent and Trademark Office Society presented $500 awards to two Indian American students. They are: Nandini Tondamantham Naidu, 14, of Valley Catholic High School, Beaverton, Ore., and Shreya Sundaresh Ramayya, 17, Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, presented the Second Physical Science Award of $1,000 to Anoop Vemulapalli, 17, of Plano West Senior High School, Plano, Texas.

The U.S. Agency for International Development gave its USAID Global Development Innovation award of $10,000 to Koushal Rao, 17, of Lincoln Park Academy, Ft. Pierce, Fla.

United Technologies Corporation gave $3,000 in shares of UTC common stock to Sriharshita Vani Musunuri, 15, of Henry M. Jackson High School, Mill Creek, Wash.

A Renewable Tuition Scholarship Award from West Virginia University was presented to Anisha Priya Valluri, 17, of Cabell Midland High School, Ona, W. Virg.

Vidur Tenali Prasad, 16, of Dayton Regional STEM School, Kettering, Ohio, also received a Renewable Tuition Scholarship Award from West Virginia University.
