Dr. Laxman Desai of Toxokon Corporation, Bedford, MA received the Immigrant Learning Center's 2015 Life Sciences Entrepreneur of The Year Award at the awards dinner held at Hotel Sonesta, Cambridge, MA on May 7th.
For more than 30 years, Dr. Desai has dedicated himself to the advancement of the field of toxicology. He received his university training in toxicology/pharmacology in Blegium. After managing the oncology drug research programs at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Desai launched Toxikon Corporation in 1977.
Toxikon is a re-clinical contract research organization that provides testing for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device sectors. It is a global company with offices in Massachusetts, Minnesota, Belgium, Inida and Japan, and more than 1,000 active customers throughout the world.
In 2009, Desai initiated the Laxman Desai ASIOAward Fund to encourage students and postdoctoral fellows of Inidan origin to pursue careers in toxicology.
