1. Please tell us about your involvement with Art.
From childhood years I knew I was to create beauty with the use of arts. Painting as a child under the direction of artist, Ellen Whitman I learned about the tools of art and developed the skills needed to put vision on canvas. As a young adult, I studied Interior Architecture at Cazenovia College in New York where I was able to build on that same skill set to create a broader vision using art in my Architectural design.
With a great appreciation of architecture and its surroundings I enjoy capturing every moment in time. With use of several media, watercolor, oil paint, acrylic or pen and ink I express what I feels with form and the embodiment of life around it.
2. In your view, what is the role of Art in an individuals life/society?
As a mother and a teacher to young artist I like to make sure they understand the importance of taking in and observing our surroundings. I find and notice that our young and even adults always have their heads looking down at phones or computers, missing out on the beauty that surrounds us. Art is everywhere; our world is filled with color, light and shadow. Our surroundings can be used for inspiration to create art in every form of media.
3. How do you manage your time between a full time job, art, and family?
Creating art happens for me in the early mornings and late nights when everyone is sleeping or resting. My family understands that art is a huge part of my heart and soul and all my art is dedicated to the celebration of Life.
4. Why did you join Ekal's IndiArt initiative?
It is such an honor to be part of such an important initiative in hopes to provide education to children in rural India. Over the past month in talking about this amazing program it has made me realize how sheltered our children are to the world outside their homes and schools. To see the expression on a child’s face when they learn they can make a difference by being part of this is inspiring.
5. Any piece of advice for our young artists?
Look up and around you, inspiration for creating art surrounds us. Whether it is in a sunset or changing of the season’s color that we see and live in can truly inspire.
6. In one line define art:… Art is… To capture every moment in time.
