Anju Pathak's aim is to take the art of bridal beauty to the next level. A one-stop shop for complete bridal dressing, hair do and make-up, she is Professional, Perfectionist and Prepared! She shared her wisdom about wedding, event styling and other services with Lokvani.
Can you tell us a little about Bridal Beauty?
"Bridal Beauty By Anju" is a full beauty services which includes makeup/airbrush-makeup, hair styling, and Saree/dupatta draping. We also provide services like facial, waxing, hair-color, hair-cut, manicure, and pedicure.
You started Bridal Beauty after your children were grown up. What motivated you to do this?
I was always interested in beauty and styling, and have always been passionate about it. After my children were grown up, it gave me the perfect opportunity to pursue my dream to be a beautician. I took the opportunity and decided to go the professional way. I enrolled in a cosmetology school and graduated as a valedictorian. I also went to India to learn from Mr. Bharat Godambe, who is a well known makeup artist in Bollywood (he has done makeup for Kareena Kapoor, Aishwaria Rai, Rani Mukharjee, etc. He has done films like "Om Shanti Om" etc.)
I also did my air-brush makeup training in New York with "Temptu", the pioneers of the air-brush technology.
Besides weddings, I have also done hair-style and makeup for Television shows like "Top Chef". I have done makeup for top level executives of big corporations like GE, Emerson College, etc.
I have also done hair and makeup for fashion shows.
I also teach air-brush makeup.
My passion takes me to various industry seminars to keep myself up to speed on industry trends.
When does your engagement with the wedding party begin?
My engagement with the wedding party begins a few weeks before the wedding so they know what to exect since the last few days are very stressful for the bride.
What advice do you have for brides to be as they are thinking about shopping for clothes?
My advice to a bride is to buy a separate light weight piece if they are planning to cover their head. I also suggest that they maintain a color theme for various events.
Is it worth taking a trip to India for cloth shopping?
While there are many choices available locally a visit to India will definitely offer more options.
What are the pitfalls one should watch out on the day of the wedding?
In my experience I have noticed that the brides do not give themselves enough time to get ready. My suggestion has always been to give enough time, stay calm, avoid unnecessary distractions, and enjoy the day.
Do you do a rehearsal of the hair and makeup?
I strongly recommend a rehearsal. Many brides go for it, but not all.
Any words of advice for women who want to transition from parent to business woman?
First of all, you have to be passionate about what you want to do. If you enjoy it, pursue your dream. Age is just a number.
