ISW Cultural and Language School’s Tamil class celebrated its "first
ever Pongal Celebrations" at the India Center on Sunday, Jan 11 2015.
It's part of our theme of educating the language and culture, to the
kids who learn in a fun-filled environment.
The entire ISW Tamil class students participated in this colorful
event by showcasing their talents through a skit called "4 day Pongal
Celebrations" explaining the 1st day being "Bhogi Pongal", 2nd day
being "Thai Pongal", 3rd day being "Maatu Pongal" and the 4th day
being "Kanum Pongal". Also they displayed their dancing talents
through 3 different folk dances with their traditional costumes.
Especially the boys were able to dance with their own style in the
last dance sequence. We had participants joining this celebration from
Kalaimagal Tamil School and Boston Tamil Church group with a prayer
song and a fusion of dance items.
Our ISW Tamil student's parents provided homemade traditional Pongal
dishes like "Sweet Pongal" and "Venn Pongal." Besides these main
courses, wide varieties of other south Indian dishes were served to
the audience and guests. It was wonderful to have a warm/colorful
event followed by hot south Indian feast. It was great that the
students and the parents for supported this event in spite of frigid
weather condition on that day.
