On June 7th, 2003 a drizzling Saturday evening in Stamford, people started pouring in for the 'Manoranjan' event, hosted by 'the Stamford chapter of Asha for Education (www.ashanet.org/stamford). The orchestra and the band began their popular numbers after a brief introductory speech. Especially colorful and vibrant were the Rajasthani folk dance and Punjabi Bhangra. During the intermission people lined up for delicious snacks and 'chai', while the Asha theme was being propagated in the background. The 'Juke Box' musical event was coupled with some raffle prizes. It was gala time for all - the talented performers and the enthusiastic audience, who at times were dancing and clapping with the music. The highlight of the entire sequence of programs was a short play depicting Asha's ensuing awareness about the education of the underprivileged children.

Overall it was a multifaceted effort at entertainment, while trying to raise awareness and to educate people about 'Asha' and its mission. The spirit behind it all was the desire for upliftment of the underprivileged children in India through involvement with the local community.

The artists were all local talent in the lower Fairfield County. Kashish band (www.kashish.com) from New York City complemented the Orchestra and the singers.

All proceeds from this event will support education related projects for the underprivileged children in India. Asha Stamford has chosen to focus their effort on North East India that include the 7 sister states (Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura & Arunachal Pradesh). Please visit our website (www.ashanet.org/stamford) for supporting projects in the region, viewing projects funded and project progress and other updates.
