After an intense online, Television, social
media and print campaign in the quest to find the host of the upcoming
show Kawan Kitchen Mate, the producers revealed the winner today.
Applicant Kunal Lamba of New York City was
unanimously chosen from several hundreds applicants by the consulting
panel of the show and the producers collectively.
Lamba, a self proclaimed Foodie at heart, will host the 13 episodes of
the show which is slated to go into production December 2014. Born to a
New Delhi family with roots in restaurant business in India, Kunal
included culinary in his higher studies from Welcomgroup School in
Manipal, India.
Surprisingly, Kunal has never been a chef. He recalls how he was told by
his mentor “though you have great appreciation for food you should not
spend your life within 4 white tiled walls of a hotel/restaurant
kitchen as you talk a lotâ€.
"This is a dream come true for me, and I am finally putting all my
talents to use on one project and I am excited to meet these households
and families", said Lamba upon hearing the news.
The show premiers on leading General entertainment channel Star Plus in January 2015.
By sending an experienced FOODIE to each household, Kawan Kitchen Mate
will introduce South Asian food and families to U.S. audiences while
attempting to solve the commonly shared dilemma of what to make for
dinner.
The idea is brilliant in its simplicity and universally appealing
because of its applicability to daily cooking challenges. While it’s
common for most cooks to exchange recipes and cooking tips, most still
find it challenging to come up with daily meals that excite and satisfy
their families. Lamba will be the anchor who will add innovation to
simple dishes without needing the expertise of a professional chef. The
beauty of the show’s concept is that families will learn how basic
ingredients on their grocery list and in their fridge can be used to
make new tasty dishes every week.
The show which is the brainchild of Executive Producer RAHUL WALIA, is
part reality TV, part educational cooking show, and part entertainment
as viewers meet families from across the U.S. and learn how to apply the
Lamba’s solutions to their own lives.
“We all innovate, swap recipes, and come up with creative ways to keep
everyone happy, but still the dilemma exists. Our objective is to try
and offer new ideas and think out of the box while getting to know our
wonderful community, said, Walia.
“Star Plus is excited to be breaking new barriers with this show which
is for the NRI’s, of the NRI’s and by the NRI’s. The audience we cater
to is ready for content that is locally generated and involves them on a
regular basis. We look forward to seeing Kunal in action on the show,
said Guneet Anand, Head of North America, Star India Plus.
“We are very happy with the selection of Lamba as the host and look
forward to an exciting season of the Kawan Kitchen Mate,†said Tim Tan,
International Business, Kawan Food
