K. Arvind 10/08/2014 Vidwan Vittal Ramamurthy, a globe-trotting
violinist, known for his creativity and the aesthetic grace and serenity of his
music, has performed in more than 1500 concerts spanning 25 countries. Hailing
from a family of musicians, Sri Vittal who was first introduced to the violin
by his grandfather, went on to master the instrument under famous violinists
including Sangeetha Choodamani Smt. T. Rukmini and the legendary violin maestro Padmabhushan
Sri Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. A Grade ‘A’ artist of All
India Radio, Sri Vittal, who also has a strong vocal background, has
accompanied many eminent Carnatic musicians spanning multiple generations, on
the violin. He has accompanied his own great Guru Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman
in vocal and violin concerts, as well as vocal stalwarts including Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Sri. D.K. Jayaraman, Sri
Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, Smt. Sudha Raghunathan, Sri T.K. Govinda Rao, Sri T.N.
Seshagopalan, Sri T.V.
Shankaranarayanan,
Bombay Sisters, Sri R.K. Srikantan, and Dr. K. J. Yesudas, and current
generation greats including Smt. Bombay Jayashree, Sri T.M. Krishna, Sri
Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Sri Vijay Siva, Smt. S. Sowmya, Sri Sanjay Subramaiam,
and Sri P. Unnikrishnan. He has also provided accompaniment to
instrumental maestros including Sri Kadri Gopalnath (Saxophone), Sri N. Ramani
(Flute), and Sri Ravikiran (Chitra Veena). Sri Vittal has produced hundreds of
recordings in accompaniment with these artists and in solo. Sri Vittal has also
participated in Jazz and fusion concerts in the US, and in international music
festivals in Paris, Singapore and Dubai. Sri
Vittal has been honored through awards from numerous organizations. He has been
honored as the Asthana Vidwan of both the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam as well
as the Sringeri Sharada Peetam. He was awarded the title
of “Vadya Kala Vipanchee†by Vipanchee, an organization founded by musical legend Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, and has received the Best
Violinist award from the prestigious Music Academy and Sri Krishna Gana Sabha
of Chennai. Other awards that have been conferred on him include
“Kalaimaniâ€, “Yuva Kala Bharathiâ€, “Swara Gyana Bharathiâ€, the Maharajapuram
Santhanam Foundation Meritorious Award for Achievement, and the Best Teacher
Award from VDS Arts Academy, Chennai. As
a way of giving back to the community that raised him, Sri Vittal organizes
music summer camps (“Karubithil Sangeetha
Shibiraâ€)
in his native village near Dharmasthala,
Kartnataka, India in gurukula style, where about 100-150 children from
surrounding villages stay in his home and learn music for a whole week from eminent artists like Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Sri Vijay Siva, Sri T.M. Krishna and Sri Vellore
Ramabhadran, Smt. Srividya Ramanath, Smt. Shankari Krishnan, Sri Kasturi Rangan. Sri Vittal also has
students in many regions of North America including Houston, Boston,
Montreal, New Jersey and California. Many of his students have become leading
performers today. Popular violinists of today like Embar S. Kannan, Karaikal
Venkatasubramaniam and Amritha Murali were initially trained under Sri Vittal. The
Hindu Temple of New
Hampshire
based in Nashua, NH has been serving the Nashua and Greater Boston community
for over 6 years. Started in a rented premises by a small group devotees in
2008 with a mission of serving the growing Hindu population in the area, the
Temple is now located in its own beautiful
facility at 525, Broad Street, Nashua, NH, about 45 minutes north-west of
Boston. The Temple (in its earlier locations) has been graced by prominent
spiritual leaders including Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Sri Vellukkudi Krishnan
Swami. Bharathi Vidyashram, the cultural school associated with the
Temple, offers language, music, culture and leadership classes for children, and also organizes events
such as seminars by speakers and cultural programs. Bharathi
