Kavin Krishnan, who is a rising senior at the Advanced Math & Science Academy in Marlborough, organized a fund raising event for Ekal Vidyalaya on July 19, 2014 at the Ashland Farmers Market.

Kavin has been volunteering at the Ashland Farmers Market and has been responsible for managing the sound system for the last three years. The market is held each Saturday from June to October. But this is more than just a traditional market. There is a specific theme that is chosen for each week and the activities are based on the theme. Each year, a day is dedicated to Indian cultural activities that includes music performances (dance, vocal, instrumental), Indian food stall, Henna, Sanskrit name writing etc.

This year, the event was very well attended and as part of the activities, Kavin set up a fundraising booth dedicated to Ekal Vidyalaya to help spread the word about the organization.  He also used this opportunity to raise funds. To encourage people to donate, he also organized a raffle with the winners getting gift certificates to local restaurants.

The booth was a great success as it not only raised funds to sponsor schools in India but also brought awareness about the great work that the organization is doing. Kavin was humbled by the response and support he got from the community and organizers of the Ashland Farmers Market.
