Bangla-O-Biswa, a premier Bengali non-profit organization in the Boston area held its general election on June 1, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Westborough, MA with the largest turnover ever. With over 69% of the members casting their vote, this year's election was by far the most democratically conducted election with Dr. Anil Chawla serving as the Election Commissioner and the Westborough Police Department maintaining the order. The members spoke and Bangla-O-Biswa emerged as a stronger organization as a result of this election.
 
The team led by Dr. Soumitro Pal prevailed with a comfortable margin of 54% to 45% with 1% of the vote rendered invalid by the Election Commissioner.  Some of the issues over which the election was contested were-the revival of the traditionally inclusive culture of Bangla-O-Biswa blending the wisdom of the seniors and the technological know-how and eagerness of the new generation; team playing management style; mutual respect and harmony among the EC members for the effective operation of the organization's activities; and maintaining a healthy financial position of Bangla-O-Biswa while encouraging the cultivation and promotion of the Bengali cultural, spiritual and social heritage.
 
The new Executive Committee members are Dr. Soumitro Pal, Dr. Utpala Bandyopadhyay, Debraj Roy, Sagar Dey, Arindam Ghosh, Sharmila Biswas and Prosenjit Santra.
 
The new EC is inviting everyone to participate in their first event-the Annual Picnic to be held on July 19, 2014 at Hopkinton State Park, 164 Cedar St, Hopkinton, MA.
 
Bangla-O-Biswa will celebrate Durga Puja on October 3-5, 2014, at Littleton High School in Littleton, MA. Bangla-O- Biswa will also be celebrating Kali Puja on 25th October. The date and the venue will be announced later.
